The National Parks Association of NSW is one of 20 leading conservation groups that form part of the Save our Marine Life alliance.
The alliance was formed in 2013 in response to the Abbot Government’s decision to suspend all new federal marine parks. Together with a growing Big Blue Army of people, organisations and businesses who support the campaign, the alliance is working to protect Australia’s unique marine life, safeguard the country’s healthy coastal lifestyle and save the national network of marine sanctuaries. Collectively the alliance have acted on behalf of millions of supports to protect huge areas of the marine environment around the globe.
In 2014, NPA will continue to work with the alliance to save Australia’s marine sanctuaries, now under even greater threat with the recently announced suspension and review of the entire national marine sanctuaries network.

The National Parks Association of NSW is one of 40 groups in the ‘Places you Love’ alliance, Australia’s largest union of environment groups which started as a fight back against attempts to wind back national laws that serve to protect nature. The alliance is working hard to ensure that our national parks, sensitive ecosystems and threatened species receive adequate protection from the Federal Government.
In 2012, the alliance mounted a campaign to prevent Federal environmental approval powers being devolved to State and Territory Governments. At the December 2012 Council of Australian Governments meeting, the government announced that it was indefinitely postponing its plan to hand environmental powers to the states. This was a significant win for the campaign, although work to ensure that Federal powers are strengthened, not weakened, in the future is ongoing. The alliance continues to work to rebuild an active constituency for nature.
