The proposed regulation includes an amendment to delete a clause that provides a strict protection for the marine environment by ensuring that the objects of the zone are the primary consideration in any decision to grant a permit for activities within a marine park, relying instead on the relevant Ministers ‘having regard to’ certain assessment criteria.

The National Parks Association of NSW, welcomes the statement by Luke Foley (June 22nd 2017) that “Labor, the party that built the finest national park system in the world here in New South Wales, won’t have a bar of a toll road being carved through one of our state’s most popular, most visited national parks, a mecca for our citizens and for tourists, a refuge for hundreds of plant and animal species, and 300 species of birds.”

Consultation ends today on the finer details of the NSW government’s deeply unpopular Biodiversity Conservation and Local Land Services Amendment Acts. The National Parks Association of NSW (NPA) is urging the government to close loopholes and rein in self-assessable codes in order to salvage some protections for NSW’s beleaguered flora and fauna.
