The National Parks Association of NSW (NPA) urges the Premier to resist calls from the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) to burn north coast forests for power[1]. Touted as ‘innovative’, burning wood for power has been happening for as long as humans have been able to knock stones together to create sparks. It is to energy what the ox is to farming: outdated.

Natural values of Kosciuszko National Park must not be overlooked in Snowy 2.0
The National Parks Association of NSW (NPA) has cautiously welcomed the federal government finally appearing to embrace renewable energy in the context of Snowy 2.0. But politicians still haven’t outlined how the scheme would avoid damaging the natural values of the unique alpine ecosystems and judgement must therefore be reserved.
NPA CEO, Mr Kevin Evans said: “The vulnerability of the alpine ecosystems to climate change encapsulates perfectly why we urgently need to transition to renewables.

Landmark report finds koalas across two-thirds of NSW facing extinction
The National Parks Association of NSW (NPA) are alarmed at a new report that shows that koalas across two-thirds of the state face extinction from habitat loss and climate change.
The report, written by former Office of Environment and Heritage ecologist, David Paull, indicates that radical measures need to be taken if the fate of the state’s koalas is to be reversed.
