It marks the anniversary of the signing of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention) in Ramsar, Iran, on 2 February 1971. This year the theme is wetlands and climate change and in Australia it could be not timelier.

Lack of Commonwealth accountability means forests destined to go the same way as rivers
Following briefings with Commonwealth and NSW environment and primary industry agencies, environment groups are more convinced than ever that the newly minted Regional Forest Agreements (RFAs) will facilitate the continuing decline of threatened species, unsustainable destruction of forests and the loss of important benefits they provide to communities.

The government’s koala strategy can’t work—the Great Koala National Park can
The National Parks Association of NSW Inc (NPA) is renewing calls for the government to create new protected areas for koalas, including the Great Koala National Park, following the release of a critique of the NSW government’s Koala Strategy authored by WWF, North East Forest Alliance and NPA.

Conservation groups boycott call for nominations for Wild Horse Community Advisory Panel
Leading conservation groups have today announced that they will be boycotting the NSW Government’s call for nominations for the Wild Horse Community Advisory Panel. To do otherwise would be to lend credibility to a process that over-rides the National Parks and Wildlife Act.
