Forestry Corporation admits that it hasn’t yet wiped out all threatened species in NSW

National Parks Association of NSW (NPA) welcomes NSW’s taxpayer-owned Forestry Corporation’s public acknowledgement that our state forests still offer suitable habitat for iconic threatened species, including koalas, yellow-bellied gliders, parma wallabies, and quolls.

In response to revelations about the environmental damage inflicted by Snowy Hydro’s bogged tunnel boring machine (see https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-02-13/snowy-2.0-tunnel-boring-machine-grinds-to-halt-and/101968974 ), the National Parks Association of NSW (NPA) is calling on the NSW Government to launch an urgent review of the potential breaches of the Snowy 2.0 project’s Conditions of Environmental Approval.

The National Parks Association welcomes today’s commitment by the NSW Greens to end logging in NSW’s public native forests and calls on all parliamentarians to work towards this goal.

NPA President Dr Grahame Douglas said that, while a move to 100% generation of construction timber from plantations has become inevitable, it is essential that we protect the biodiversity jewels of our public native forests from any further damage while that transition is underway.

In this article I would like to acknowledge The Traditional owners being the Gadigal and Birrabirragal people.

For the past 5 years, I have enjoyed learning and making lifelong friendships with fantastic people as a Bushcare volunteer for Woollahra Council at Parsley Bay and a Sydney-based NPA member.

Parsley Bay is one of my favourite places, and a treasured spot in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. A place of many celebrations, gatherings, picnics, and beach activity, where children play and laugh and have many great adventures. It is a much-loved area by the whole community.
