An ambitious citizen science survey has reconfirmed previous research demonstrating the importance of urban natural habitat in supporting bird diversity in suburban areas.
Over a thousand people from across Australia participated in the summer Bathing Birds survey developed by the National Parks Association of NSW, in partnership with Birds in Backyards and the University of Sydney.

Thursday’s heat did nothing to deter 20 enthusiastic young volunteers from taking part in the first of a series of community events at Bradleys Head Reserve aimed at helping the area’s Eastern Water Dragons.
The event was organised as part of Dragons of Sydney Harbour, a new initiative run by the National Parks Association of NSW (NPA) in partnership with Taronga Zoo, Conservation Volunteers Australia, Macquarie University and Greater Sydney Local Land Services. It seeks to conserve Sydney’s urban Water Dragons through revegetation and citizen science.

Over 100 South Western Sydney residents celebrated the launch of Bush Mates, an exciting new community engagement program, at the Harrington Forest Frolic on Saturday, 7 November.
Bush Mates, run by the National Parks Association of NSW (NPA), is a program to raise awareness and educate South Western Sydney’s 300,000 new residents on how they can have a positive impact on their local environment.
