The National Parks Association of NSW and Campbelltown City Council are launching a community bushcare group at Atlantic Boulevard Reserve and are calling for volunteers!
“Atlantic Boulevard Reserve is an example of a rare ecosystem called the Cumberland Plain Woodland, which is only found in Western Sydney. Less than 10% remains, so it is imperative that we protect and enhance what we have left,” says Ms Margot Law, citizen science officer at the National Parks Association of NSW.
“Bushcare groups are a great opportunity for the community to make the environment a better place. The Atlantic Boulevard Bushcare Group will be meeting on the 3rd Sunday of the month, starting from the 15th October. We would love more people to be involved!”
The bushcare group will be participating in a project called ‘Bringing back the buzz to the Cumberland Plain Woodland’ which focuses on supporting pollinators in the landscape.
“We have been surveying pollinators over the last year at Atlantic Boulevard Reserve and will monitor how pollinators respond to bushcare activities. In July, we planted 300 flowering plants with the help of locals at a tree planting day and we are keen to start tackling the weeds.
“Pollinators are a vital component of any healthy ecosystem, so it will be interesting to see if we start attracting some new native pollinators,” says Ms Law.
‘Bringing back the buzz to the Cumberland Plain Woodland’ is managed by the National Parks Association of NSW in partnership with Campbelltown City Council and with support from the NSW Government through its Environmental Trust.
