The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has again issued a $15,000 fine to Snowy Hydro Limited contractor WeBuild S.P.A, this time in relation to construction works near the Wallaces Creek Bridge at Lobs Hole. At the same time, Snowy Hydro has been issued a $300,000 enforceable undertaking for creating a surface depression in Kosciuszko National Park while tunnelling.
National Parks Association of NSW (NPA) CEO Gary Dunnett stated “Time and time again Snowy Hydro and contractor WeBuild have been fined for inflicting untold damage on Kosciuszko National Park.
“Less than two months ago WeBuild was issued with a similar $15,000 fine for allowing 9000 litres of polluted water into the Yarrangobilly River.
“The Snowy 2.0 development has been an absolute environmental disaster and is proof that development has no place inside our national parks. “More must be done to ensure no further irreversible damage is inflicted on Kosciuszko National Park by Snowy Hydro and its contractors.”
