Don’t Trash Kosci – Take Action

We need your help to save Kosciuszko National Park!

The NSW Government recently unleashed a masterplan proposing a massive increase in commercial development in the Snowy Mountains. These new planning tools called ‘Special Activation Precincts’ allow green tape to be cut in a bid to fast track and streamline environmental approvals for projects.

It was a shock when we realised that the deputy Premier’s newly created Department of Regional NSW has drafted the Masterplan proposals which seek to allow massive increases in commercial development proposals within the Kosciuszko National Park itself!

The conservation movement has responded with nearly 50 of the state’s leading conservationists, ecologists and former national parks managers publishing an Open Letter in the SMH asking Premier Gladys Berejiklian to “set aside disastrous plans” to significantly increase commercial development in the national park.

This radical Masterplan is entirely out of keeping with Kosciuszko’s status as a national park and national heritage-listed place. Specific proposals include an unsustainable 60% increase in on-park accommodation, clearing habitat for car parks, helicopter access into the resorts, commercial vehicles on walking tracks, and insensitive changes to nationally significant historic sites such as gas fired Japanese bath houses along the remote Yarrangobilly river. Existing services including waste, water supply and sewerage treatment would be pushed beyond capacity.

We plan to present the Premier with an avalanche of letters opposing the masterplan to destroy Kosci when the issue is debated in Parliament.

Will you add your voice to the experts open letter by handwriting your own personal letter to the NSW Premier on this issue.

Help us to generate as many letters as we possibly can to help get our message across.
